FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Autonosys Inc FoundedDriverless vehicle company has proven its technology in open contest against world wide competition.August 4, 2004 -- Dr James O'Neill announced today the incorporation of Autonosys Inc, a high tech company focused on development of systems and subsystems for Autonomous Vehicles. Autonomous Vehicles are automated vehicles which drive themselves and do not need a a human driver. Dr. O'Neill said, "Autonomous Vehicles represent a large and fast growing market. In military applications, the US government has set an objective to have one third of all military vehicles autonomous by 2015. Since US front line combat vehicles alone have a replacement value of approximately $40B there is a huge opportunity to either replace these vehicles or retro-fit them with systems which allow them to become autonomous. Opportunities in other areas such as security, mining, farming and construction are also very substantial and can be captured using the same basic technology". Dr O'Neill added, "I and my co-founders have been developing the technology base for Autonosys for the last two years. Our technology has been tested and proven against world wide competition in the Trinity Fire Fighting Competition in Connecticut. This competition is in its 11th year and attracts contestants from around the world. This year Autonosys robots placed first and second in the senior division". In conclusion, Dr O'Neill said, "We now need to build on our existing technology base and roll out our products to the world. There is a highly qualified workforce here in Ottawa which is under utilized since the telecom market crash in 2001. The ability to tap into that highly qualified pool of people makes Ottawa a very attractive place to set up to continue the development of our world beating technologies."
